VISIT IN NURSING HOME

In January we went to the Nursing Home in our town to show eldery people the nativity play prepared by our students. The group of volunteers put to the audience Polish Christmas Customs and Polish Carols, they compared past and present and showed the influence which old customs have on our present life. After our performance the habitants of Nursing Home- old, ill and, sometimes, lonely people, were really touched and happy that there are people who take care of their life, their loneliness and yearning. At the end we had lunch together.

RAISING MONEY FOR THE NEEDY

According to the agreement we keep continuing our work in volunteering. In January the members of Comenius group took part in a very noble action, which was concentrated on helping children and elderly people in need. The topic of the action was to take care of ill people: (pediatrics, cardiac surgery, oncology). The way of doing it was very different: from music concerts, orchestra on the ice to the marathon against diabetes. Volunteers collected a big amount of money in order to help ill children and their grandparents. This kind of action is an example of international phenomenon : nobody is as good at doing it as Polish people are!

FIELDS OF HAPPINESS

In October 2014 volunteers from MZS nr5 in Krosno, including the members of Comenius group, participated in opening a wonderful action "Fields of Happiness" (the seventh edition). Our volunteers accompanied by Iwona Majko-Bogacz attended the Mass in Hospice, celebrated by pr. M. Zarzyczny. Their work during the last year has not only spiritual but also material value (about 100 000zl which were passed on old people needs). Our students are going to take part in the next Spring Collection. This kind of activity helps our pupils to understand of pluralism and awereness of coexistence, eliminate prejudice and reduce "generation gap". With this kind of effort they can help to feel old people happier and more useful. Congratulations to all our students on their commintment and dedication.

Selfies and sayings

As part of our project the students taught seniors what a selfie is and how to make one. In response the seniors told the students a proverb or saying. The students presented their work in class by showing the selfie and saying in a PowerPoint presentation.

Lidia and Natalia about volunteering

Today, we have visited Magdalena, who has done a reflection about changes she has had in her life relating to the technology. She has said that when she was born on the 40s, thet only had electric light. Things were very basic because without electrical appliances all was handmade. For these reason, days were exhausting. Lately, it was invented the washing machine, the fridge, the TV and all these progresses changed our lifes. It has advantages and disadvantages. The technology`s progress has been very important.I have lived from the birth of the TV to Internet in a bit of years. The best of it was the reduction of the household; you can do it in less time and more efficiently. In conclusion, from Magdalena’s point of view, we have improved“Time to time”

We’ve tried tos hare their lifes. They have different distresses and troubles, some of them lost their husbands or wifes and some of them were angry with their families and so they are trying to find peace in this rest home. They are really desperate people abandoned by who try to punish or close relatives who offended…Here,we went to their visit. All of them sit in a state of bitter misses their grandchildren and son sor daughters.
We started chatting with them.Almost all of the common expressions:”My wife died, the world have no tasting”.We sang songs, folk songs with them to entertain these cute old people. We played folk dances.Even a grandfather taught me to waltz,we done waltz with him.
Osman Dede attracted me very much,he was a retired teacher. He has written so many poems…He read some of them for us.I liked the most ‘We are old’ poem.He gave us an example of it.He had three children. All of them are outside of Denizli so they can’t come to his visit. We were affected togehter.
We were there for two hours,I wish we’d stayed a little more,I coludn’t get enough.
I have never been to rest home before.Fortunately,I have joined the trip. So,I have learned that how the nursing home is a place.
I wish we could visit them all the time, listen to their life stories.
We must try to keep the old people in our lives.

  • I suggest you see our photos and read Osman teacher’s poem.

WE ARE OLD
We were born and grew up like you
First we crawled and later walked
Years took our youth,we have rotted
We hope not pity only affection…

Some of us were judge, some of us were public prosecutor
We had friends, all of them were brother and sister
Now being forgotten is very hurt
‘Don’t forget us’ we say….

Our friends haven’t called us
A lifetime exhausted,our color left
It got dark,it was evening time
We miss sweet words….

We were child, young and grow old.
We supposed that you called us
We were sorry because of leaving
‘Don’t forget us’ we say….

Paco and Jeronimo about volunteering

When we visited this old man, we enjoyed a lot because he was telling us a lot of experiences about his life. He started talking about his childhood. He said that although they didn’t have a lot of things, they had hours and hours to enjoy, that they dindn’t need technology to have fun and that their life were quieter than now it is. However, due to the fact that he started to work at building very young, when he was 12 years old, he couldn’t enjoy his childhood completely. When he was 20 years old, he went to military service where he met Joaquin, one of his best friends since this time. He also was telling us different things about his military service. For instance, he told us that some people tried to enter to the station trying to steal some weapons but that he achieved to stop them. For this reason, he was given a medal. Five years after that, he met a woman who would be his wife for 50 years. They had four daughters. When he was 50 years old, he gave up building and was only selling buildings, and when he was 65 years old he retired and his company was inherited by his sons in law.
